Perth Mint’s Silver Lunar Coin Series celebrates the cycle of the Chinese Zodiac. The 12-year cycle of the ancient Chinese Lunar calendar ends in 2019 with the Year of the Pig coin. The new series, Series III, begins with the release of the Year of the Mouse coin in 2020. The Lunar Series III features renewed designs of all 12 animals of the ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar, including the Year of the Snake.

This .9999 fine silver coin features a snake hanging off of a tree branch. Additionally, the reverse contains a Perth Mintmark. The Chinese symbol for snake and inscription "Year of the snake" also appear on this side of the coin.

The obverse showcases Queen Elizabeth II with the denomination, weight, and purity.

Those born during this year are known as ”Water Snakes” and are usually active, flexible, and good communicators. Water Snakes are willing to undertake difficult challenges. Notable Water Snakes include: Oprah Winfrey, Tim Allen, and Rick Moranis.

The 2001 snake design shows a scaly snake watching over her hatching eggs. The Chinese symbol for snake, the weight, and purity of the coin, and the year of mintage are all inscribed on the reverse as well.

The obverse displays Queen Elizabeth II, along with the denomination.

Those born in 2001 are known as “Metal Snakes” or “Gold Snakes”. Metal Snakes tend to be clever, determined, and independent. Metal Snakes choose their friends carefully but treat them very well once they are close. Notable Metal Snakes include: Nora Ephron, Ann-Margret, and Pierce Brosnan.

According to one Chinese legend, the 12 animals of the Zodiac and their order were determined by an exciting race across a river. The snake managed to finish in sixth place by startling the Horse, overtaking him near the finish line. The final order ended up being: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

Some of the years included under the Snake Zodiac sign are 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, and 2013. The next Year of the Snake will fall in 2025. Famous “Snakes” include Bob Dylan, Tom Hardy, Carole King, Daniel Radcliffe, and Sarah Michelle Geller.

Although snakes have received a bad reputation over the years, the people who are born under this sign display many positive traits. Snakes are known to be sophisticated, eloquent, and wise. Often good communicators who display confidence, Snakes can turn out to be great leaders. They usually show an independent spirit, and will only let a few select people get close to them. However, once someone becomes close friends with a Snake, they will be treated extremely well by these Zodiac signs, who often lavish them with gifts and praise.
