Luxembourg Gold Coins

French gold Francs were introduced to many countries in Europe after the European wars and conquests of Napoleon Bonaparte. After Belgium won its independence from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Luxembourg adopted the Franc as their national currency from 1839 to 1842 and then again in 1848. During the six-year gap, Luxembourg used the Prussian Thaler. From 1854 until 1926, when Belgium withdrew from the Latin Monetary Union, Luxembourg started to issue its own Franc whose value was on par with the Belgian Franc. After 2002 all Luxembourg Francs lost their legal tender status and they adopted the Euro to be part of the European Union (EU).
