About the Certified Chinese Panda Gold Coin

One of the most sought-after gold bullion products on the precious metal market, is the Chinese Gold Panda Coin. They are the most popular Chinese Gold coin due to their concept of yearly design changes.

In 2001, China decided to freeze the coin’s design, so in 2002, Gold Chinese Pandas were struck with the previous year design. But the collectors’ complaints caused the Chinese Mint to return to its “each year – new design” concept. These coins were first released in 1982 in 4 sizes: 1 oz., ½ oz., ¼ oz. and 1/10 oz. Later, in 1983, the 1/20 oz. size was also added to the collection.

Chinese Gold Pandas are made of .999 pure gold, with face values between 500 Yuan and 5 Yuan, according to their weights, being legal tender coins in China. The coins are manufactured in Beijing, Shenyang, Shanghai and Shenzhen, but they don’t have any mintmarks. This is one of the coin’s particularities, however the facilities can be distinguished by the metal color, size of the date or the obverse design of the Temple of Heaven on the coins.

Collectors and investors all over the world are fond of this outstanding gold coin because they are eager to see and own each year’s newly designed coin. Besides, because the issued quantities of Gold Pandas vary from year to year, some Chinese Gold Panda editions are very hard to find, making the collecting process very challenging, yet extremely rewarding. This is why Certified Gold Pandas are even more desired than regular coin versions.

Certified Gold Coins are coins authenticated by international coin grading and certification companies like NGC or PCGS. Each coin is thoroughly examined, to certify its condition and quality before being authenticated, and receiving its grade or certification. Usually, Certified Gold Pandas are graded with marks between 65 and 70, which means that the coins have only a few flaws or blemishes, visible under 5X magnification, or no flaws at all (70-graded Gold Panda Coins). Some Chinese Gold Panda coins are certified with UNC Details grading (Uncirculated Details), meaning no evidence or wear marks of circulation. Coins with 69 and 70 grades are very hard to find because they are very rare, especially for editions with limited mintage quantities. These Certified Gold Pandas are very appreciated by numismatists due to their high collectible value and increased scarcity.

Certified Chinese Gold Pandas are available in several size options: from the most popular coin weight of 1 troy ounce, down to the fractional sizes of ¼ oz., ½ oz., 1/10 oz. and 1/20 oz.
