PERTH MINT YEAR OF THE TIGER GOLD COIN DESIGN
The Perth Mint Year of the Tiger gold coins are made with .9999 pure gold and is available in a variety of sizes from the classic 1 troy ounce to multiple fractional sizes. This particular coin has been minted for 2010 so far, and it will be part of the Perth Mint’s 3rd Lunar Year Series in 2022. Every year, the reverse bears the "P" mintmark, the Chinese symbol for the animal of the year (Tiger “虎”), and the inscription for the animal year ("Year of the Tiger.") The obverse of the Perth Mint Lunar Gold Coins always display Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by inscriptions regarding the denomination, weight, and purity.
2010 COIN DESIGN
As part of the Perth Mint Lunar Series II collection, the second Year of the Tiger Perth Mint gold coins bears the face of a tiger as it calmly stares at the viewer. Above its head lies the Chinese character for Tiger. The inscription “Year of the Tiger” appears below its head, and the Perth Mint “P” mintmark is situated on the right side of the coin. The obverse displays a newer image of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. She also is bordered by the inscriptions including her name, the country of issue, year, face value, and the coin’s weight, purity, and metal.
1998 COIN DESIGN
From the Perth Mint Lunar Series I collection, the first release of the Year of the Tiger gold coins displayed a tiger mid-pounce in a grassy plain. In the sky above its body is the Chinese character for tiger, behind its tail is “1998”, and further inscriptions below the tiger note the weight, purity, and the metal. The obverse contains the image of a youthful Queen Elizabeth II.
ANCIENT CHINESE ZODIAC CALENDAR - THE TIGER
The Chinese zodiac animals are in a particular order due to a race the Jade Emporer once ordered for the animals to his party across the river. The tiger came in third place behind the Mouse/Rat and the Ox. The tiger is a particularly coveted animal in China, often referred to as the “king of all animals”. This animal burst from the river, and despite its soaked coat that weighed it down, it raced forth to the finish line to claim the third spot in the zodiac cycle.
The personality born under the Tiger is considered to be tough and bold. Tigers are authoritative and final on their words. The birth years for this sign are 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, and 2022. Order your Year of the Tiger gold coins whether you have collected them from before or you are a new collector! The Perth Mint Lunar Gold Coins are also wonderful to gift, especially to those with the Tiger on their zodiac chart.
