About the Stately Series
[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70wWW3xAX_g&=&feature=youtu.be[/embed] In 2016, Queen Elizabeth officially became the longest-reigning British monarch in history. Consequently, to honor this achievement, the British Royal Mint started producing the Queen’s Beasts Coin series. This 10-coin series commemorates the heraldic statues that greeted Queen Elizabeth as she entered Westminster Abbey for her coronation in 1953. Beginning with the Lion of England, this stunning coin program now reaches its ninth issue with the Horse of Hanover design.
Distinguished Design
The obverse of the coins all features the recognizable bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed by artist and engraver Jody Clark, Queen Elizabeth’s effigy is adorned with her royal crown and jewels. The denomination also appears on the surface of the coin.
The reverse of the coin displays the fierce design, also by Jody Clark. The White Horse of Hanover rears back on its hind legs while bearing an emblematic shield. Clark purposely positioned the Horse facing the opposite direction as the Unicorn to differentiate between the two designs. In the first quarter, the shield shows the leopards of England and the lion of Scotland. The fleur-de-lis of France features prominently in the second quarter. The Irish harp appears in the third quarter. Lastly, the fourth quarter bears the Arms of Hanover. Also, the background contains an intricate chainmail pattern, enhancing the design aesthetic.
