U.S. Dollar vs Precious metals

The US dollar slipped to a five-month low after Donald Trump said in his interview with the Wall Street Journal yesterday that the currency was getting “too strong” and that he would prefer the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates capped. “It’s very, very hard to compete when you have a strong dollar and other countries are devaluing their currency,” said Trump. Currency investors responded immediately by selling the greenback. President Trump also said the upcoming report by the US Treasury Department wouldn’t label China as a currency manipulator. After this announcement gold price is trading at the new weekly highs today. Silver price started a new day with a slight change. The majority of market strategists consider that unexpected geopolitical events like the airstrike on Syria last week have a  short-live effect on gold, meanwhile, this US Dollar roller coaster definitely will keep influencing gold price in the nearest future.

Stock Market Today

U.S. stocks on Thursday opened lower: S&P 500 2340.93 (-0.17%) and NASDAQ Index 5829.76 (-0.11%), Dow Jones Industrial Average 20,540.24 (-0.25%) after Donald Trump's words about U.S. dollar "getting too strong”. Oil prices shed earlier losses and moved slightly higher on Thursday after an energy watchdog said the market is “very close” to a balance after years of oversupply. Oil prices also found support from a weaker dollar. Because of the light economic data this week, the majority of strategists are concentrated on the global political triggers for the stock market in the upcoming weeks. They expect market volatility to pick up around France's presidential election, the first round of which is April 23. Trump's first military foray into Syria last week was a bit of a surprise to the market, but it has taken it in stride. The bond market, however, could see a flight to safety if the situation escalates or becomes more uncertain. Financial markets will be closed in observance of Good Friday, however, a batch of data is slated for the day because it isn't a federal holiday. Data include a reading of retail sales and consumer prices for March.
