History of Koala Bears
Did you know that koala bears are one of the most precious animals in the world? Most people adore their fluffy round ears and ball-shaped bodies. As a result, people often travel to Australia to see koalas, and it has become a very well-known animal from Australia. The white and grey-colored fur makes the koala look like a bear, but they are referred to as "sleepy bears" because statistics show the average koala sleeps up to twenty hours a day. However, people do not realize that Australian gold coins have two types of different koalas. The Northern koala is smaller and has the iconic gray coloring that comes to mind when most people think of koalas. The second type of koala, the Southern koala, is bigger with thicker fur and darker coloring.

The Perth Mint
The Perth Mint began as the third Australian branch of the British Royal Mint after large deposits of gold were found in Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. Even though it began as one of three Australian branches of the Royal Mint, eventually the Perth Mint was the only remaining of the three. Years later, the Perth Mint became independent from the Royal Mint in 1970, and today it constantly strikes highly creative and master-crafted coins and bars. Some of their popular products include the Kookaburra Coin series and their Zodiac Lunar Coin series. Their more recent releases include the Krusty the Clown Silver Tuvalu coins and James Bond Tuvalu Coins. They also produce the iconic Kangaroo Coins.
