Detailed Information:

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was one of the most famous presidents of the United States, who was elected to four consecutive terms in the White House. He played a vital role in finding a prevention for polio or what was known as infantile paralysis.

When he came to power, not many knew that he was affected with polio waist down, as his family and staff tried their best to conceal this fact. He was affected with polio 12 years before he became president in August 1921. His health issue prompted him to find a cure for the polio disease to make the world free of polio. When he was in power, he had to face two major disasters, the Great Depression and the World War II. He knew that his people could not afford to do charity, but he still inspired his people that if each person in America donated a dime each, they would have enough fund to find a cure for the dreaded disease polio. All his efforts paid off, when people started donating in large numbers. As it was just a dime, people did not feel burdened to donate, and thus National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis soon came to be popularly known as the March of Dimes.

When Roosevelt died in 1945, people of his nation wanted to honor him, having served 12 years as president for his country, brought the nation successfully out of the Great Depression and World War II, and had also played a vital role in the March of Dimes to help find a cure for polio. So it was decided to bring out a dime with his bust portrait on it.

The designer of the coin is John Ray Sinnock, the chief engraver of US Mint at that time.

This is a commemorative coin and has a lot of historical significance. It is also easy to complete this set of coin as there are not many rare dates in this coin.
