The obverse of the coin shows Adolph A Weinman’s “Walking Liberty” design. Lady Liberty strides forth towards the rising sun as she cradles branches in her left arm. Her right arm is outstretched to the sunlight in a hopeful gesture. Lady Liberty’s dress billows in the wind and the American flag is draped around her shoulders. “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are both inscribed on the obverse along with the year of issue.
The reverse of the coin displays the new reverse image designed by Emily Damstra. A bald eagle flies through the air while carrying an oak branch in its talons, possibly for use as a nest-building material. The eagle is surrounded by inscriptions including the weight, purity, and denomination of the coin.
