This unique coin weighs 2 troy ounces, contains .999 fine silver, and replicates the image of the “Rosebud” Fabergé egg. This was notably the very first Fabergé egg that Tsar Nicholas II gave to his beloved wife, and the original is currently housed in the Fabergé Museum in Saint Petersburg. Debuting in 2019 to great success, the Faberge Egg Coin Series was introduced to honor the Russian jeweler who created the famous Fabergé eggs: Peter Carl Faberge. On the 100th anniversary of Peter’s death in 2020, CIT honored this talented and visionary artist by releasing the Apple Blossom Egg Coin. For the second issue, CIT paid tribute to the Rose Trellis Egg. Now, CIT celebrates the Fabergé egg that started it all: “Rosebud”. This historic egg was created to remind Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of the yellow roses that she missed dearly from her homelands. This first Faberge eggs started the tradition of hidden surprises, containing not one, but two different treasures inside! The first was an enameled yellow rose that opened up to reveal a miniature Imperial crown made of rose-cut diamonds and two cabochon rubies. The second surprise hidden inside was a ruby pendant. Both surprises are sadly lost to history, but the enameled yellow rose remains.
The obverse of the coin displays the state emblem of the Mongolian People's Republic above the coin’s denomination of 1000 Togrog. The other inscriptions include “MONGOLIA” as well as the weight and purity of the coin.
The reverse of the coin features an ultra-high relief proof colorized rendering of the Rosebud Egg, which is covered in red enamel and decorated with wreaths and swags of varicolored gold. Four bands of rose-cut diamonds run vertically across the egg, and both ends also feature a diamond.
