This particular Type 1 American Eagle was originally issued as part of a two-coin Silver Eagle Set containing the original and new reverse designs, thus making it one of the final silver eagles to feature the original reverse design by John Mercanti. PCGS graded this Silver Eagle a near-perfect Proof 69 First Strike, greatly increasing its collector appeal. The obverse of the silver eagle showcases Adolph A. Weinman's historic “Walking Liberty” design. Lady Liberty walks towards the setting sun with oak and laurel branches in her left arm, reaching her right arm to the horizon. The American flag is draped over her shoulders, billowing in the gentle breeze.

The original reverse displays John Mercanti’s design of the national US Coat of Arms. A bald eagle stretches its wings as it holds a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. The eagle also grasps a banner reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak, and bears a shield on its chest showing the US flag. Thirteen stars twinkle above the eagle to symbolize the 13 colonies.
