Similar to the Pride of Two Nations collaboration between the US Mint and the Royal Canadian Mint, this release is a joint creation between the Royal British and Canadian Mints. However, this release’s purpose is to celebrate the birthday of the Queen. This unified creation honors the history that both countries have together: Queen Elizabeth II is the first monarch of both Great Britain and Canada to reach her 95th birthday. Therefore, these coins are specially decorated to honor this shared milestone. The Canadian Coin shows off Queen Elizabeth II’s Equestrian Monument, and the British Coin displays a special birthday salutation to the Queen.

The obverse of the Canadian coin contains the four effigies of Queen Elizabeth II that the mint has used since 1953, and the border is decorated with lovely ornamental flourishes. The reverse of the Canadian coin features the Queen Elizabeth II Equestrian Monument created by the Canadian sculptor, Jack Marman. Here, the young Queen rides astride her horse, Centennial. This statue is situated at the main gate of Rideau Hall today, the official Canadian residence of the Queen and her representative, the Governor-General of Canada.

The obverse of the British Royal Mint coin displays the classic Jody Clark portrait of Her Majesty as she wears the royal State Diadem and matching earrings. The reverse of the British coin displays a symbolic design created by Timothy Noad. The Royal Cypher appears front and center with symbols of the Queen’s royal heritage and all the British nations. This includes thistles, daffodils, roses, and shamrocks. A special inscription “My Heart and My Devotion” is engraved as a reference to the promise the Queen made in her 1957 Christmas speech.
