The obverse of the Type 2 Silver Eagles continues to showcase Adolph A Weinman’s “Walking Liberty,” originally created for the 1916-1947 silver half-dollar. Restored elements include Weinman's initials, the year of mintage font, as well as minor details for Liberty's eye, bonnet, flag, and the solar rays. Lady Liberty moves towards the rising sun on the left side of the coin. She extends her right arm to the horizon while carrying oak and laurel branches in her left arm. The American flag is draped over her shoulders and waves gently behind her in the breeze.
The new reverse of the Type 2 Silver Eagle coin bears a flying American bald eagle with an oak branch locked in its talons. Inscriptions border the eagle including the country, weight, purity, denomination, and the US motto “E Pluribus Unum”.
