The obverse of the Type 2 Gold Eagle coin features a modified edition of the Augustus Saint-Gaudens illustration. Modified details can be seen on the Capitol building, stars, Liberty’s torch, the sun rays, and other elements per the detailing of the original bronze cast. Lady Liberty strides forward holding a flaming torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. These two objects signify peace through strength. Rays of sunlight radiate from the US Capitol behind her.

The reverse of the Type 2 Gold Eagle displays the new reverse design: A close-up image of the left side of a bald eagle’s head. Inscriptions surrounding the eagle include the country, weight, purity, denomination, “E Pluribus Unum”, and “In God We Trust”.
