PCGS graded this limited-edition Silver Eagle as PF 70 within the first 30 days of its issue, designating it as a First Strike coin. The San Francisco Mint struck this wonderful Proof Silver Eagle with 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver, featuring a mintmark, and it has a limited mintage of 10,000. Collectors, keep in mind that this is one of the last Silver Eagle coins with the John Mercanti reverse. Because the Silver Eagles coins are changing their reverse design in 2021, this is the final 2020 Silver Eagle that has the beloved reverse image. The original Silver American Eagle coins were minted in 1986 officially by the San Francisco Mint. This year, the John Mercanti reverse design makes its final bows from this same facility since the silver (and gold) coins later in 2021 will feature a brand new design. 

The obverse design, which will remain the same, displays Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty. Lady Liberty strides towards the sunrise while cradling branches in her left arm. The words “Liberty” and “In God We Trust” are etched around the rim, along with the year of mintage on the bottom.

The reverse design, designed by John Mercanti for the very first Silver Eagle coin in 1986, displays a heraldic Eagle bearing a shield below thirteen stars. The heraldic bald eagle bears arrows in one talon, an olive branch in the other, a US flag shield on its chest, and a banner in its beak that reads “E Pluribus Unum.” Thirteen stars also shine above its head to pay homage to the first states of America.

The eagle also carries an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in its left. Its beak clutches a banner with the US motto in Latin. Inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, "S" mintmark, the weight, and the denomination.
