2020 (P) 1 oz Silver Eagle NGC MS 70 FD Mercanti Sign - Emergency Production
The 2020 (P) 1 oz Silver Eagle is a highly collectible coin produced by the Philadelphia Mint with a limited mintage due to an emergency production run in response to increased demand for silver. This particular coin has been certified by NGC as MS 70, the highest possible grade for a coin's condition and appearance, and features a special First Day of Issue (FDOI) John M. Mercanti Signature Label.
The obverse features a striking depiction of Lady Liberty walking confidently forward, draped in the American flag and carrying branches of oak and laurel, symbols of strength and victory. The word "LIBERTY" is inscribed above her, with the year "2020" and the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" below.
On the reverse is an image of a heraldic eagle, wings spread wide as it prepares to take flight. The eagle clutches an olive branch in one talon, symbolizing peace, and a bundle of arrows in the other, symbolizing strength. Above the eagle is the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," with the coin's weight of "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" below, along with the denomination of "ONE DOLLAR."
This particular coin features a special label with the signature of John M. Mercanti, the designer of the reverse of the Silver Eagle coin. As a former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, Mercanti's signature adds significant value to the coin for collectors.
