Due to the temporary closure of the West Point and San Francisco Mints, the US Mint has struck about 240,000 of the 2020 Silver American Eagles at the Philadelphia Mint as an Emergency Issue. Although struck at the Philadelphia Mint, these silver American Eagle coins do not feature a "P" mintmark. Each coin has a face value of $1 and made from 1 oz of .999 fine silver. Furthermore, these coins were graded by NGC as Gem Uncirculated with the Early Releases designation. Purchase these emergency production silver American Eagles from Bullion Exchanges.

Originally, the American Eagle Series was first struck in 1986. Then, the US Mint resumed the production of bullion coins for the first time in the 1980s since former President FDR outlawed private ownership of precious metals in the 1930s. The obverse of the American silver dollar is the beloved 1916 ”Walking Liberty” illustration by Adolph  A. Weinman. He designed this originally for the American silver half dollars in the early 1900s. When the silver American Eagles began in 1986, his design was resurrected. Lady Liberty treads across the coin to the left side.  Her right arm reaches towards the rising sun and the American flag ripples behind her. In her other arm sits a collection of olive and oak branches.

The reverse of the coin displays the US National Coat of Arms as updated by John Mercanti. His design spotlights the heraldic bald eagle as it stretches its wings. It holds onto a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. A banner that is held up by the eagle’s beak reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. On its chest is a shield with the US flag, and thirteen stars are positioned above the eagle’s head to represent the original colonies.
