In his illustration, a bald eagle with outstretched wings is the centerpiece of the picture. This heraldic eagle carries arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other to signify the “peace through strength” ideology of the US. The eagle also clutches a banner in its beak that says “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. On the eagle’s chest is a shield emblazoned with the US flag. Finally, thirteen stars lie above the eagle’s head as a nod to the original thirteen colonies.
