The series of the Queen’s Beasts is inspired by the ten heraldic statues that stood watch at the coronation of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. As of 2015, she is the longest-reigning monarch, and this series celebrates her royal lineage through each animal and beast. The White Horse of Hanover descends to the Queen through George I, who succeeded to the throne in 1714. This horse is emblematic of the former king who was the first Hanoverian king of Great Britain. 

The obverse spotlights the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing her crown and jewels.  

The reverse of this coin features the White Horse of Hanover, rearing back on its hind legs while bearing a shield. This design pays tribute to Georg Ludwig from Hanover, Germany. Later known as George I, he became the first British ruler from the House of Hanover.
