Beginning in 1997, the Britannia bullion program continues to be one of the British Royal Mint’s most popular series, alongside its Lunar Series and Queen’s Beasts Series.

The Britannia series celebrates the Roman figure of Britannia, who served to personify the mysterious lands to the far West side of the empire. Now, she stands as a symbol of the power and integrity of the United Kingdom.

The reverse features Britannia in her full majesty. Dressed in a toga, she holds a shield decorated with the Union Jack and an olive branch in her left hand, representing peace and the Kingdom’s defense. In her right hand, she wields a trident, representing the willingness to fight should the need arise. The year of mintage, weight, and purity of the coin are engraved along the rim alongside Britannia’s name.

The coin’s obverse, meanwhile, displays Jody Clark’s famous bust of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch is dressed in her royal crown and wears elegant earrings, and is joined by engravings of her name and the coin’s denomination along the rim.
