The 2020 D Basketball Hall of Fame Clad Half Dollar NGC MS 70 ER is one of the basketball coins now available from Bullion Exchanges. These basketball coins were produced by the US Denver Mint to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Inspired by the successful 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame coins, these basketball coins are dome-shaped. NGC also graded this coin a perfect MS 70 with an Early Release designation. Basketball was created in Springfield, MA around the end of the 1800s. To consecrate the legacy of this town, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame was erected in 1959. This includes both professional and amateur teams internationally. One of their best-known events is the annual Enshrinement Ceremony which honors the game’s elite. The obverse design for all the basketball coins in this series was decided from the winning design in a public competition. Justin Kunz from the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) illustrated the unifying element of basketball by featuring athletes from several different backgrounds. Three players all reach for a basketball soaring over their heads, which captures the physical demands of basketball. Additionally, the background and border serve as the basketball hoop’s rim and net. This signals that the players might be about to score. 

The reverse was designed by AIP artist Donna Weaver. This side highlights the basketball itself as it is about to fall through the hoop. Inscriptions on the coin note the face value, country, artist initials, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM”.
