This bimetallic coin is made from a special process entitled Bi-Metal Max. This process required completely covering a 28.5 oz copper center with 5 oz layers of .999 fine silver. These ultra-high relief coins were then given an antique finish. The collectible coin is complete after the beautiful antiquated finish is applied. On top of that, the coin is an octagonal shape to further remark upon the Eight Protectors who guard every direction.
The Eight Protectors series consists of eight Buddhist deities that are assigned to protect the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals. Four of them guard the main cardinal directions while the other four watch over the semi directions. The God Ākāśagarbha is one of the eight great bodhisattvas, and his name means “boundless space treasury”. His wisdom is considered to be as endless as space itself, and his wisdom is bestowed upon others through his enflamed Wisdom Sword of Light. With his sword, he cuts through destructive emotions that cloud judgment. He is also associated with art and the protector of the tiger and ox zodiac animals.
The obverse of the collectible coin bears the legal tender with the Republic of Chad’s Coat of Arms. This is positioned in the center of a yin-and-yang circle surrounded by the zodiac wheel of the 12-Animal cycle. Specific line patterns further surround the outermost portion of the coin on each side of the octagon to signal the cardinal and secondary directions.
The reverse of the bimetallic coin spotlights Ākāśagarbha in his traditional headdress and garb while meditating. He sits on a platform in the divine lotus position with his flaming sword in his right hand and a lotus flower in the other. He is surrounded by more lotus flowers and a border of traditional kanji that translates to his name.
