2020 Australia 1 oz Beneath the Southern Skies Silver Coin BU
Celebrate Australia’s landscape, night sky, and numismatic heritage with the 2020 Australia 1 oz Beneath the Southern Skies Silver Coin BU. Struck by the Royal Australian Mint, this legal-tender bullion coin contains 1 troy oz of .9999 fine silver, carries a face value of $1 AUD, and was produced in a Brilliant Uncirculated finish. Its distinctive design brings together the outline of the Australian continent and the Southern Cross constellation, creating a uniquely Australian expression in highly pure silver.
The Beneath the Southern Skies series pays tribute to celebrated Australian goldsmith and coin designer Stuart Devlin, whose work became closely associated with Australia’s decimal coinage. Devlin created the reverse designs for several Australian denominations introduced with decimal currency in 1966 and later designed the familiar five-kangaroo reverse for the Australian $1 coin.
Visible primarily from the Southern Hemisphere, the Southern Cross has long served as an important navigational reference and has become deeply embedded in Australian symbolism. Its placement alongside the continent gives the coin a design that is immediately connected to Australia while distinguishing it from the wildlife themes commonly seen on Australian bullion.
