The Tiffany Art Coin Collection celebrates notable architectural art styles along with a stained glass window inlay on each coin. Architectural styles previously honored by this creative collection include Venetian Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo, among others. This year, the architectural beauty of Naghsh-e Jahan Square (also known as Imam Square) in Isfahan, Iran was selected as the worthy honoree. More specifically, the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque itself was chosen to feature on the coin’s design. The mosque, located in the East Side of the City Square, is part of a Unesco World Heritage Site. City Square is one of the largest in the world and is a treasure trove of Persian art and architectural design. This mosque is highlighted in the coin’s design, with a blue Tiffany Glass window inlay on one side, and a blue and gold inlay on the other- greatly enhancing its beauty.

The obverse provides a fascinating, impeccably- designed view from the inside of the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, which took 16 years to build. The use of a Black Proof finish artfully contrasts with the regular Proof finish, creating a spectacularly special combination. The Tiffany Art glass inlay in a beautiful light blue is located near the bottom right of the coin, near the inscriptions “REPUBLIC OF PALAU” and the denomination.

The reverse showcases the outside wall of the mosque, using the same Black Proof/Proof combination, with the stunning blue glass inlay featured near the bottom left. An intricate gold pattern decorates the outside of the blue window.  The inscriptions “Tiffany Art 2020” and “Isfahan” are etched in stylized letters on this side of the coin as well.
