2020 30 gram Chinese Silver Panda 10 Yuan PCGS MS 69 First Strike

The Chinese Panda Coin program first entered production in 1982, when the government authorized mintage of Gold Panda coins. The program expanded to silver a year later, when the first Silver Pandas were released in the form of proof coins. Finally, silver bullion Chinese Pandas came to the market in 1989. 2016 saw the Panda coin series switch its measurement system from ounces to grams, and colorized and privy mark versions have since joined the Silver Panda family.

The reverse of the Silver Panda coin changes every year. The 2020 coin displays a panda cub rolling over on its back as it uses its left paw to snack on some bamboo leaves. A tree hangs over it, where it reaches for more leaves with its right paw. Inscriptions for the weight, purity, and denomination surround the rim.

The obverse for the Silver Panda features the Temple of Heaven, a complex of religious buildings located in Beijing, China. Ming and Qing dynasty Emperors would visit the Temple’s Hall of Prayer annually to pray for a good harvest. The rim is inscribed with the year of mintage and the Chinese Characters for “People’s Republic of China.”
