Platinum American Eagles, first minted in 1997, are the newest type of American Eagle coins from the US Mint following the Gold and Silver Eagles which were introduced in 1986. The Platinum American eagle was first released with varying fractional weights until 2008 Today, the Platinum Eagles are currently only minted in the 1 oz version.
