The NZ Mint's new Chibi Coin Collection began with the release of two coins, the Silver Harry Potter Coin and the Silver Chibi Batman Coin. Every coin in this collection will be in the Japanese art style known as “chibi” and colorized. This 2020 Silver Harry Potter coin features one of the most recognizable fictional characters in modern times: Harry Potter. The internationally acclaimed Harry Potter series is comprised of seven original novels that turned into eight films, one play, and a spin-off film semi-prequel series. This coin displays the famous Harry Potter with his glasses, lightning-bolt shaped scar, and Gryffindor scarf and cloak.
The obverse of the coin featured the legal tender amount of $2 Niue dollars, along with the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty faces to the right and wears her royal diadem. Inscriptions on this sign include the Queen’s name, country, year, face value, weight, purity, and Warner Brothers copyright.
The reverse of the coin displays a colorized Harry Potter in the Japanese chibi style. This style presents itself in Harry’s enlarged head and small body, rendering him as an adorable, child-like character. Harry Potter’s hair is brushed aside, revealing his iconic lightning bolt scar over his right eye. He wears his Gryffindor scarf and black school cloak.
