In 1985, former President Ronald Reagan signed the Gold Bullion Coin Act. With his signature, he authorized the production of the nation’s first Proof Gold American Eagle coins. This coin became the US’s most successful gold coin program. NGC created these special Ronald Reagan labels to honor his impact in the world of coin collecting and precious metals.

The US Mint’s American Eagle series began in 1986 with silver and gold coin releases. Rays of sunlight erupt from behind her, lighting up the distant US Capitol building. The reverse of the coin displays the American Bald Eagle, descending towards its nest where its mate and hatchling await its arrival. An olive branch is clutched in its talon.
