One of the most widely recognized villains in all of cinema and pop culture, Darth Vader invokes a fearsome image whenever he appears on-screen or in literature. He began his life as Anakin Skywalker, a young, promising Jedi mentored by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Because he contained more Midi-Chlorians (microscopic life forms) in his blood than any other human, his power was unmatched by those who tried to challenge him. Lured to the Dark Side by Emperor Palpatine, Anakin assumed the name Darth Vader. He later became the main adversary of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, his biological children hidden from him at birth. After a tumultuous journey and epic battle between Luke and Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader sacrificed himself to save his son. His meaningful sacrifice defending Luke completed his arc of redemption.
The obverse of the coin features the right-facing bust of Queen Elizabeth II, a design by Ian-Rank Broadley. The bust contains a raised, polished finish. The coin’s background has a lovely matte finish.
The reverse of the coin features an official copyrighted image of Darth Vader wielding a lightsaber. The Sith Lord appears in front of an Imperial Logo background and is surrounded by a border that encompasses half the coin. Darth Vader’s body and weapon display a polished finish, while the background contains a matte finish.
