Released for the first time at the San Francisco facility of the US Mint, the Proof American Silver Eagles have been minted from 1986 to 1992, bearing the “S” mintmark. During 1993 and 2000, the proof eagles have been struck at the Philadelphia facility, showcasing the “P” mintmark.

Starting from 2001 until 2008 and beginning with 2010, these astounding coins are produced at the US Mint’s West Point facility, carrying the “W” mintmark. The mint didn’t issue any proof eagles in 2009 due to the high silver demand which forced it to supply the blanks for the bullion edition.
