Released in 2010, the America the Beautiful Quarters Program issues 5 coins yearly to commemorate different American National Parks and Monuments. Since that time this series has become highly popular among both collectors and investors. The obverse always depicts a recognizable George Washington portrait.
This year, the U.S. Mint offers the 2017 5 oz Silver America the Beautiful ATB Missouri Ozark National Scenic Riverways Coin, designed by artist Ronald D. Sanders and sculpted by Mint Sculptor-Engraver Gordon, presenting an emblematic site of Ozark National Scenic Riverways in the state of Missouri with the Alley Mill, a steel roller mill built in 1894 which can still be seen in the National Park.

The Ozark National Scenic Riverways in Missouri is known as a National Park since August 27th, 1964, consisting of 80,785 acres of unique landscapes, 134 miles of the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers, 400 caves, 249 historic structures and other special geologic features. This site is the first National Park to protect a wild river system and attracts more than 1 million tourists annually, impressing not only through the natural beauty but also a wide range of outdoor activities: john boating, canoeing, swimming, and fishing.
The Park also keeps alive the heritage and ways of life of the Ozark culture, managing 249 historic structures and presenting to the visitors the vestiges of prehistoric people who settled in the region during the past 12,000 years.
The chosen emblematic design for the 2017 silver coins is the Alley Mill, built in 1894 and used to convert wheat into flour. Most of the original mill is still available for the visitor’s delight.
