2016-S Silver Proof American Liberty Medal (w/Box & COA)

Introduction:

This 1 troy ounce 99.9% pure silver commemorative medal is a unique release of the prestigious US Mint. Replicating the design of the 2015 American Liberty High Relief stunning gold coin, the 2016-S Silver Proof American Liberty Medal was issued with a smooth edge in limited quantity, being the first medal introduced by the US Mint since 2011.

The last medals released by the US Mint, excluding the Presidential medals, were issued in 2011 to commemorate 10 years since September 11, 2001. Just like the 9/11 medals, the Liberty commemorative rounds are released in two versions: one struck at the San Francisco facility and another at the West Point. These fabulous silver medals are struck with a proof finish on the 1 oz. .999 pure silver blanks used for American Eagle Silver Coins but replicate the obverse and reverse design of the American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin issued in 2015 (except the coin inscriptions). These stunning gold medals were the first to depict Lady Liberty as a modern woman and the first carrying a changed design over the last 70 years. However, the 2016 commemorative silver medals are not legal tender and don’t carry denominations. The silver medals are offered with a 4-medal limit per household, 2 from each facility, with a limited production of 12,500 units. This 2016-S Silver Proof American Liberty Medal is an excellent addition to any collection and a rare opportunity to own one of the few US commemorative medals.

Key Features of the Medal:

The design was created by Justin Kunz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, whose initials (JK and PH) are engraved on the obverse side, along with the word “Liberty” and the year of release (2016).
  • Reverse: Showcases a beautiful image of the American bald eagle. It represents the eagle rising in flight while holding an olive branch in its talons - the symbol of freedom. The design belongs to the remarkable Paul C. Balan, being sculpted by Donald Everhart II, having their initials (PCB and DE) struck on the reverse side, as well as the inscription “United States of America” and “S” mintmark.
