The 2016 design of the coin, represents a combination of the Nation’s core values of freedom and liberty by showcasing Liberty holding an olive branch (symbol of peace) in her left hand and a torch (symbol of enlightenment and hope) in her right hand, along with a magnificent bald eagle, having its wings wide outstretched beside her. The olives on the branch also represent the Thirteen Original Colonies of the Nation. This state-­of-­the-­art craftsmanship is courtesy of the US Mint’s sculptor­-engraver Joseph Menna and designer Paul C. Balan. On the reverse side of the coin are also engraved the words “United States of America”, the denomination, purity and weight marks.
