2016 5 oz Silver America the Beautiful ATB Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Coin
America The Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin series was started first in 2010 after the authorization of the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008. The U.S. Mint has a plan of issuing a total of 56 quarter dollar coins which will feature designs depicting national parks and national sites. This plan started in 2010 and will end in 2021. Each year 5 coins with a different individual design on the reverse will be released except 2021, where only one coin will be released.
Among the five strikes in the year of 2016, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Coin is the third strike and the 33rd coin in the entire series.

At the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers in the vicinity of Harpers Ferry lies the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. In 1944, the park was originally designated as a National Monument which was, later on, declared as the National Historical Park in 1963 by the U.S. Congress.
The historic town of Harpers Ferry lies inside of this park and has been a witness to several important historical events such as being selected as the site for national armory and arsenal by George Washington, raided by radical abolitionist John Brown, the largest surrender of United States took place at Harpers Ferry during the Civil War, Harpers Ferry changed hands fourteen times between 1861 to 1865, and the arrival of the first successful American railroad, Harpers Ferry also was notable at the 19th Century industry, due to all of these important historical events and also its recreational appeal, Harpers Ferry was declared a National Historical Park.
The Obverse of the coin features a left-facing profile image of George Washington, which is a design by John Flanagan that originally appeared on the 1932 Washington Quarters. This is a restored version that was used to bring out the subtle details of the original design. Inscriptions are “United States of America,” “In God We Trust,” “Liberty,” and “Quarter Dollar.”
The Reverse of the coin depicts the Fort of John Brown, the site of John Brown’s last stand during his raid on the Harpers Ferry Armory. Inscriptions are ”WEST VIRGINIA,” “HARPERS FERRY, “JOHN BROWN’S FORT,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and the year of mintage 2016
U.S. Mint produced both the bullion and uncirculated version of the America The Beautiful silver coins. They are mainly minted at the U.S. Mint, the Denver Mint, and the Philadelphia Mint. San Francisco Mint is used to release only a few special-edition coins.
