Detailed Information:
The design of Standing Liberty quarter is as complicated as it is beautiful. It was in 1916 that the first silver Standing Liberty quarter was issued and was a legal tender of USA. The grand design of the coin was extremely difficult to mint as there are certain fine details which could not be struck well like the facial features, hair strands, the rivets on Liberty’s shield, etc.
Grading a Standing Liberty quarter is a complicated work as there are three types of designs in Standing Liberty. Type I with exposed right breast. Type II in which the bare breast is covered with chain mail vest and a different hairstyle from Type I and Type II where the dates are recessed.
After determining the type, the next step in grading is for the full head features. The dies that were used for the type 1 Standing Liberty struck softly, therefore only a silhouette of the face and head can be seen in many silver coins without separation of hairline and cap. Most of the facial features were mushy. The reason for the weak strikes of the 1916 coins was because the dies for the coins were set from July 1916 until December 1916 and only in December 1916, the first strikes happened. From July to December, the die had accumulated rust and before striking the coins, the die was cleaned with abrasive material to remove the rust, this lead to lightening of certain features of the design.
2016 marks the 100th anniversary of silver Standing Liberty quarter and to celebrate the event, US Mint has released the 2016 1/4 oz Standing Liberty Quarter Centennial Gold Coin. This coin follows the type I design and is graded by the renowned and world famous grading service PCGS as SP 70 First Strike, which is the topmost grade a coin can receive. PCGS encapsulates each coin in a tamper proof PCGS slab that has a special attractive label containing all the details of the coin which were specifically released for the 100th anniversary.
This is a limited mintage coin as it is, and upon that it is a full head, which makes it extremely rare. This coin will be the point of attraction in your investment profile.
