Please note, the label design may vary.
The Walking Liberty on the silver half dollar was an epochal image that was a perfect blend of the traditional neoclassical design with a touch of modernization. This was one of the coins from the US Coinage that broke the rules of the boring and dispassionate designs on the coins of the19th century. Walking Liberty herself took over the boring Barber Half Dollar. The original Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar was released in 1916, and to celebrate its 100th anniversary the US Mint has released a gold version of this beauty.

The Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar was a coin in circulation from 1916-1947. The coin’s design is seeping in a rich artistic legacy that has elevated the coin to be one of the most beautiful in the history of US Coinage. Only a few coins like the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle can match the splendor of this coin. The coin is in fact designed by one of the favorite students of America’s popular sculptor August Saint-Gaudens, and he is Adolph A. Weinman. It is believed that Weinman took inspiration for this coin from the “Sower” design on a French coin designed by the renowned Oscar Roty.
2016 marks the 100th anniversary of three famous coins from 1916; the Mercury Dime, Standing Liberty Quarter Dollar and Walking Liberty Half Dollar. To honor these coins, the US Mint has released the gold versions of these coins with intact design and all other details. Mercury Dime was the first coin to be released in this US Mint Centennial Gold Coin Series, the second to come was the Standing Liberty quarter dollar and now the third and the final release in the series is the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The coins have lived up to their hype and look resplendent. They are also limited mintage coins and hence they are in high demand even before their release.
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar has earned the topmost grade, SP 70 First Strike, from the reputed grading service PCGS. It is also lodged in a tamper-proof holder by PCGS.
