2016 1/10 oz Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin PCGS SP 69 FS 100th Ann
History:
The United States Mint released the Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coins in 2016 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the silver 1916 Mercury Dime. The coins feature an elegant profile portrait of Winged Liberty, an original design by Adolph A. Weinman. Since there is a resemblance of Lady Liberty in this coin to that of Roman God Mercury due to the winged cap, the coin is also known as the Mercury Dime. The coin is made from a one-tenth troy ounce of 24 Karat gold which is symbolic of the coin’s denomination of one dime. The coin is struck with a business or circulation strike finish.
Coin Features:
- Contains 1/10th Troy Ounce of gold with a purity of .9999.
- PCGS graded as SP 69.
- SP – Specimen Proof. 69 – Virtually as struck with minuscule imperfections, near full strike necessary. Coin has a sharp strike with full original luster, with no more than two small non-detracting contact marks or flaws. No hairlines or scuff marks are visible. Eye appeal is exceptional.
- Obverse – A left-facing profile of Lady Liberty wearing a winged cap. Inscriptions; LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, artist initial AW, year of mintage 2016.
- Reverse – Roman fasces and an olive branch, symbolizing the readiness of America’s military and desire for peace.
- “W” mint mark for its production at West Point Mint, NY.
