Monkeys are the ninth animal in the Chinese Zodiac, a 12-year mathematical cycle that relates each year to an animal and its characteristics. These inquisitive and devilish animals speak to those conceived in 2016.
These charming coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition which suggests the coins have no wear on them and contain the original mint luster. Despite being in Brilliant Uncirculated Condition, there may be slight surface imperfections.
On the reverse of each coin is Ing Ing Jong’s image of a monkey sitting in a peach tree. The monkey is featured sitting on its rear legs with its tail twisted and its head turned in reverse taking a gander at peach dangling from an overhead branch. The Chinese character for Monkey is also engraved on the reverse side along with Perth Mint’s iconic “P” mintmark.
The obverse side of the 2016 1/10 oz Gold Lunar Year of the Monkey Coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. Engraved along the rim of the coin are the weight, purity, face value, and year of production along with “QUEEN ELIZABETH II”, and “AUSTRALIA”.
