The design of the Panda depicted on each coin changes yearly, and this year’s design features adorable panda sitting in front of a bamboo fence chewing on a tree branch, with a scattering of bamboo leaves adorning the areas around.

The obverse design features the iconic Temple of Heaven in Beijing, along with the mint year and "People's Republic of China", represented in Chinese characters. Historically, Chinese Emperors would visit the Temple altar for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good weather and abundant harvests. Considered the holiest of Beijing's imperial temples, it has been described as "a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design”.
