2014-W 3/4 oz Gold Kennedy Half High Relief NGC PF 70 UCAM Chicago ANA First Day
This is the first gold half dollar offered by the U.S. Mint. The 2014-W 3/4 oz Gold 50C High Relief First Day- Chicago ANA PF-70 Ultra Cameo, graded by NGC, was made to commemorate 50 years of the Kennedy half dollar being a part of American coinage as well as to commemorate Kennedy’s life. This is also the first time the U.S mint made a ¾ oz gold coin.
John F. Kennedy is one of the most famous political leaders in American history. His motivation and vision for the United States swept across the nation, creating a period of great optimism and difficult challenges. He needed to catch the new American era's thoughts and dreams. During his time in office, JFK applied his ideas to a number of different situations, including but not limited to the Cold war, and Civil Rights Movement.
The obverse of this coin features a portrait of JFK that is found also on the collectible and famous half dollars. Across the top of the coin and above Kennedy’s portrait the inscription Read “LIBERTY”. While underneath his portrait it reads “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “1964-2014” commemorating the fifty years that the original Kennedy half dollar has been in circulation.
The reverse side of this coin features a design based on the presidential seal and was created by U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver Frank Gasparro. It shows an Eagle with a shield across its breast while holding an olive branch in its left claw and in the right claw, a bundle of 13 arrows. Across the top the inscription reads “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” around the eagle is a ring of 50 stars, one for every state in the United States, across the bottom of the coin it reads “HALF DOLLAR”. Directly below the eagle the inscription reads “3/4 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD”.
