In the year of 2013, in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of one of the most beloved coins - the American Buffalo, the United States Mint released a special Reverse Proof Gold Buffalo with a mirror-like design. This 2013-W 1 oz Reverse Proof Gold Buffalo $50 Coin is highly sought after for exceptional quality, purity, and amazing design. This coin contains 1 troy oz of .9999 fine gold and comes in its original box with a Certificate of Authenticity.
The United States Mint introduced the American Gold Buffalo Coin on June 22, 2006, as the first gold US bullion coin with 99.99% pure gold content, guaranteed by the United States Government. The Buffalo coins are produced at the United States Mint West Point facility. Initially, this gorgeous coin was released to compete with foreign gold coins on the marketplace such as the South African Gold Krugerrands and the Canadian Gold Maple Leafs but this fantastic coin series became a huge success among collectors and investors both all over the world, especially due to the fast increase of the intrinsic value, which has almost doubled by its price today.
The obverse features a rendition of James Earle Fraser's "Buffalo Nickel" design of the Native American along with the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "2013," and "W."
The reverse portrays an American Buffalo also known as a bison which is meant to represent Black Diamond, a bison that lived in the Central Park Zoo in the early 1900's. Inscribed on the coin are the words, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The denomination ($50) and weight of the coin (1 oz of .9999 fine gold) are also featured in the coin.
