2012 China 1/10 oz Proof Gold Panda NGC PF 70 (30th Anniv)
China issued its first gold coins picturing an adorable Panda design in 1982, in sizes of 1, 1/2, 1/4, and 1/10 troy oz. of 999 fine gold. Beginning in 1983 another size was added - 1/20 oz. Larger Panda coins were issued in some years, weighing 5 and 12 oz. These popular coins were issued in Proof-like Brilliant Uncirculated quality with a different design each year (frozen in 2001).
Obverse: Each year, the obverse side of the Gold Panda, 1/10 oz. bullion coin features a new image of the Chinese Panda. Inscribed at the left of the panda on the gold bullion coin is the coin's face value of "50 Yuan."
Reverse: Located in the center of the reverse side of the 1/10 oz. Gold Panda bullion coin is the Hall of Prayer of Good Harvest located in Beijing, China. The hall is also known as the Temple of Heaven. The Chinese characters inscribed at the top of the gold bullion coin reads "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" which means "People's Republic of China." At the bottom of the reverse side of the gold bullion coin features the coin's year of issue.
