• Reverse: Depicts the denomination - 100 EURO - surrounded by a wreath and the inscriptions - "LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE" which translates to 'Liberty, Equality, and Brotherhood.' Encircling the rim of the coin is a three hexagon pattern resembling a sun or flower.

Detailed Information:

In 1886, Oscar Roty was chosen by the Minister of Finance to create new coins and he chose to use the Sower of 1887 as his inspiration. He turned his robust peasant into a slimmed-down woman who would wear the cap of Liberty.

This design created a heated debate. Many newspapers claimed that this woman, wearing the Phrygian cap, was sowing disorder, anarchy, and hatred born of lies and immorality. However, it was soon cleared that she was sowing seeds of infinite ideas that will proceed even as people pass on in life making this coin more symbolic than realistic.
