This beautiful 2002 France 5 oz 100 Euro Charles Lindbergh 75th Anniv Proof Gold Coin was issued by France to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Charles Lindbergh 5,809 km flight from New York to Le Bourget in Europe on May 20th, 1927. This was Lindbergh's historic first solo flight, and it is honored with this 5 oz gold coin. Charles Lindbergh was known as “Lucky Lindy” and “Lone Eagle.” On May 12th, 1927 Charles Lindbergh and the Spirit of St. Louis took off from New York and on May 20, 1927, he landed at Le Bourget Field in Paris. It was the first solo pilot to cross the Atlantic ocean non-stop.
The coin’s design features C. Lindbergh on one side and his Ryan monoplane, Spirit of St. Louis, on the other side of the coin. The mintmark logo for the first year of the Euro (2002) also appears on the reverse, as does the French term for "75th Anniversary" on the obverse.
