$20 Gold Double Eagle Liberty Head Type II - Extra Fine XF (Random Year, 1866-1876)

The $20 Gold Double Eagle Liberty Head Type II is a significant piece of American history, struck from .900 fine gold between 1866 and 1876. Designed by James B. Longacre, this coin features the classic Liberty Head obverse and an updated reverse with the addition of the "In God We Trust" motto. In Extra Fine (XF) condition, this coin retains strong detail while offering an excellent balance of historical value and affordability.

The Type II Gold Double Eagle was introduced in 1866, following the Civil War. This version of the Liberty Head design marked the first appearance of the "In God We Trust" motto on the $20 denomination, reflecting the nation's growing religious sentiment. Struck at multiple mints, including Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Carson City, these coins were essential for trade and economic growth during America’s Reconstruction era. In 1877, the Type II was replaced by the Type III design, making this series a distinct and collectible part of U.S. coinage history.
