1993 China Silver 10Y Mao ZeDong 100th Birth Anniversary PF 64 Ultra Cameo
This piece was created to commemorate Mao Ze Dong whom is considered the founder of modern Communist China, He is known for taking China from a feudal subjugated state into the modern world power that it is today. Mao’s leadership of the modern Chinese state was certainly a difficult one, with a huge loss of human lives while acheiving his goals, which has tarnished his memory. The Chinese government has referred to Mao’s troubled legacy as that he was: “70% right and 30% wrong.” However, Mao is still widely respected within China, with erected memorials, statues, mausoleum, and enormous portraits throughout the country. China has also commemorated his important life through coins and medals. The year 1993 marks Mao Ze Dong's 100th birth anniversary.
On the obverse the coin illustrates a bust of Mao Ze Dong in uniform. Surrounding the bust are Chinese characters and the year of birth and year of commemoration (1893 -1993); with the denomination on the right of the bust 10 Yuan. The reverse depicts a cliff-side with a tall pagoda tower overseeing the waters and bridge in the background; and the year of the birth anniversary (1993).
