This 1990 1 oz. Proof Gold American Eagle Brilliant Uncirculated edition has no wear marks on it and is struck twice to give it a shinier, more detailed look. The coin bears the inspiration of the original designs of the American Golden Eagle and Lady Liberty as they were portrayed by the very famous Irish-American sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This Gold American Eagle is dated with Roman numerals, which was the standard practice on mintages until 1992 when they started to carry Arabic numbers.  The obverse of the coin depicts the full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, she holds a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The obverse is completed with the ‘W’ mint marker (West Point) as well as the initials of the engraver and designer. The reverse side of the coin shows a male eagle carrying an olive branch while flying over to a nest with a female eagle and her hatchlings. The reverse is supplemented with the $50 face value of the coin as well as the inscriptions of “E Pluribus Unum” and “In God We Trust”.

The value of the Gold American Eagle coins is based on its precious metal content, which, by the law, is made of .9167 gold, 0.3 silver, and .5333 copper, that was added to obtain a more durable coin. The purity of this coin is guaranteed by the United States Government.
