1934 $500 Federal Reserve Currency Note Atlanta PMG VF 30 (Ink & Stains Lightened)
This 1934 $500 Federal Reserve Currency Note Atlanta PMG VF 30 will make a fine addition to any portfolio. The currency note is graded by PMG as VF 30, certifying its condition and value. The "Very Fine 30" designation means the note has been lightly circulated, may have light soiling, and will typically have seven to ten folds. Only three series of $500 Currency Notes were produced: 1928, 1934, and 1934 A. This particular note is from the 1934 series. Since it is no longer used as currency, this bill's worth as a collector item vastly outweighs its face value of $500. Therefore, interested collectors should quickly add this 1934 $500 Federal Reserve Currency Note to their collection today!
Federal Currency Notes were printed at the twelve regional Reserve Banks that make up the nation's central bank, with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, established in May 1914, was one of those 12 banks and produced a large amount of the $500 Currency Notes. These $500 Federal Currency Notes were made until 1934 and remained in circulation until 1969, when they were discontinued. Other denominations produced within the 1928-1934 range included $5 up to $10,000 notes. Although these Federal Currency Notes are still considered legal tender, after they are deposited into the bank they would be returned to the Federal Reserve. Because of this, collectors should keep holding onto these bills instead of depositing them, in order to keep them in private hands.
The obverse features a portrait of William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States. Also included are the denomination and the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". The signatures of Henry Morgenthau Jr., former United States Secretary of the Treasury, and William Alexander Julian, the 28th Treasurer of the United States, appear on the obverse as well.
The reverse displays the denomination and the phrase "UNITES STATES OF AMERICA". PMG denoted the bill contains ink stains that have been lightened.
