1918-I India Gold Sovereign George V AU
In 1918, The Royal Mint opened a Branch Mint in Bombay. There, coins were to be struck within a walled enclave of a government mint – to the same standards, purity and reliability of those struck in London. For just a few short months the Indian Branch Mint struck Sovereigns – using dies sent from London so that the coins, and their quality, were indistinguishable except for a tiny mintmark. That letter ‘I’ has become extremely sought after.
The coin features the classic design of St. George slaying the dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci. Instantly recognizable for added security and peace of mind, Pistrucci’s original design is regarded throughout the world as a masterpiece of numismatic art and an icon of strength and dependability. The Sovereign continues to be recognized as a Gold coin of beauty, quality and accuracy and is considered by many as the flagship coin of The Royal Mint. The obverse of the coins bears the portrait of King George V.
Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safe for delivery.
