1914 Belgium Gold 20 Francs Albert I Avg Circ AGW .1867 oz
This beautifully designed 1914 Gold Belgian coin is made from .900 fine gold with a weight of .1867 oz. and has a face value of 20 Francs. This is an extremely rare coin. It was only produced during 1914 and only 250,000 coins were made before the outbreak of WWI. Belgium started to produce their own gold coins in 1832 after they won their independence from the Netherlands. Because of Belgium’s proximity to the Netherlands, as well as the population speaking a mixture of languages, the production of this coin has Flemish words as well as French inscribed on the coin.
The obverse features the bearded bare head of King Albert I facing left. The king wears his ceremonial military coat with adorned laurel leaves on the collar as well as a military crest on the coat. The reverse displays the Belgian coat of arms with a lion in a shield draped in an ermine cape topped by a crown, with the inscription "20 F".
